Community Emergency Response Teams
(CERT) are an essential component of the disaster response in Coachella
Valley. Self-sufficiency is the key because everything normally
expected from the outside will be overwhelmed.
CERT training is a 20-hour program
that teaches individual and community preparedness. Neighbor helping
neighbor. Some of the topics covered are individual disaster preparedness,
light fire suppression, search and rescue, medical triage, team
organization and more. The course can be completed by persons with
physical limitations. All students will receive a backpack of CERT
personal protective equipment that is nationally recognized.

The
volunteer part of disaster preparation and planning is multifaceted;
the challenges are to Recruit, Motivate, Train, Deploy, Retrain...and,
Retain.
